Samuel Gunasekar is the son of Dr.G.Selwin and Mrs.Stella Selwin a great grand daughter of Rev.J.Joshua, the second Pastor of NAGERCOIL Home Church.  He started his school career in the N.V.K.S. School, Attoor and continued it in the Scott Christian Higher Secondary School, NAGERCOIL.  Then he joined the Stanley Medical College, Madras and took his M.B.B.S. Degree.  He took his M.S.Degree in General Surgery from the Tanjavur Medical College, Tanjavur and M.Ch. Degree  - Paediatric Surgery - from the Madras Medical College.  He is the first rank holder in M.S.Degree Examination.  Gunasekar is now working as Assistant Professor in the Paediatric Surgery Department of the Stanley Medical College, Madras.

He married Shema Leena daughter of Mr.M.J.Sam, retired Scientist, Central Agriculture Soil Conservation, Ooty, and Mrs.Pramila Sam, on 30th December, 1993.  She studied in the Briggs Matriculation School, Ooty, and later joined the Avinashi College, Coimbatore and took her M.Sc., Degree in Nutrition.

They are blessed with two children - a son named Sanjay who is five years old and a daughter Shurthi born on 22nd February, 1998.

The family is now settled in Madras.
