            Mr.Joseph Kamalam popularly known as Joe was born on26th December 1908 as the fourth child of Mr.J.Lewis the younger son of Rev.J.Joshua, and Mrs.Maisie Lewis.   After his early education at NAGERCOIL he went to Burma dreaming of a glorious future.  He joined the Burma Oil Company there.

 

            He married Gladys Maragatham daughter of Mr.Y.John William in March 1935 and was leading a happy contented life in Burma.

 

            However World War II shattered the dreams of many young families and Mr.Joe Kamalam returned to India with his wife and three small children, leaving behind all his belongings in Burma.

 

            On his return to India he joined the Survey of India office at Dehra Dun.  After serving there in various capacities he retired as P.A. to the Surveyor General of India in 1967.

 

            Joe Kamalam and Gladys kamalam were blessed with five children - a daughter named Edith and four sons,  Kenneth, Josman, Ranjan and Chandra.  All the children are married and well settled in life.

 

            Mr.Joe Kamalam served as the Secretary to the committee formed for constructing a Church in memory of Rev.J.Joshua with collections from the descendants of Rev.J.Joshua.  With his able and untiring efforts the Church was constructed at Henrypuram and dedicated by the late Rt.Rev.I.R.H.Gnanadason, Bishop of Kanyakumari Diocese on 19th, January,1969.

 

            He died in June 1982 after a heart attack at NAGERCOIL.  Mrs.Gladys Kamalam lived up to the age of  82 years .  She died on 2-5-1998 at NAGERCOIL and was interred at the Home Church Cemetery beside the grave of her husband Mr.Joe Kamalam.
