Mr.Y.D.Charleson was born on 8th March,1915.  He was the third son of Dr.S.Yesudian and Mrs.Gnanai Yesudian.  Dr.Yesudian was a doctor in the L.M.S. Medical Mission at Neyyoor.  His mother Mrs.Gnanai Yesudian was the daughter of Mr.John Sahayam and Mrs.Salome John Sahayam.  Salome was the daughter of the much revered late Rev.J.Joshua.  Mr.Charleson had his early education at NAGERCOIL.

He joined at the University College, Trivandrum and took his B.A.Degree.  As a student and afterwards, his passion was Volley Ball.  He became a champion offence in the game and won several tournaments in and out of the state and lovingly referred to as “Boy Champion”.  Tall lean, and determined he was then a landmark in the game in our town.  Soon after completing his studies he joined as a chemist in the cordite factory at Aruvankad, Coonoor.  Then he left the job and joined a course of Chemical Technology and then joined as a chemist at the Travancore Cements Ltd. Kottayam.  Very soon he was elevated as the Chief Chemist of the Company and put in charge of their White Cement Project.  He continued in that position till his retirement.

Mr.Charleson married Miss Sarojini Daniel the daughter of Mr.Alex J.Daniel and Mrs.Retnammal Daniel.  Mrs. Retnammal Daniel was the youngest daughter of Mr.V.Samuel and Mrs.Elizabeth Samuel.  Mrs.Sarojini Charleson was an accomplished lady, a highly respected teacher, an acclaimed soloist, a fine piano player and distinguished writer and speaker in the English language.

They had two sons and three daughters.  Alex the eldest son is an architect and is in Madras and Augustine was a Regional Officer in the State Bank of India till his death on 23rd July, 1994.  Rathi, Sugasini and Dhamayanthi their daughters are all married and are well placed in life.

Mrs.Sarojini Charleson died on 28-10-1987 and thereafter Mr.Charleson led a lonely life in his house at NAGERCOIL.

The last few years of his life, as the President of Rev.J.Joshua Family Association were very rewarding years in his life.  He devoted his full time, building bridges of friendship between far flung family members, and supported vigorously, Evangelical efforts by sponsoring missionaries through established Missions.  Mr.Charleson died on 1-5-1996 and his funeral service at the Home Church Cemetery, NAGERCOIL was attended by a host of his relatives and a large number of his friends and admirers.
