Joseph Robinson is the youngest son of Dr.S.Yesudian and Mrs.Gnanai Yesudian, the grand daughter of Rev.J.Joshua.  He was born in 1923.  Dr.Yesudian, father of Robinson who worked as a doctor in the Mission Hospitals died when Robinson was eight years old, and he was brought up with love and care by his mother Gnanai Yesudian.  He had his education in theScott Christian High School, NAGERCOIL, and got his B.Sc. Degree from the Travancore University.  As a boy and a young man he had various interests in many extra curricular activities, mostly in sports and team games and got many certificates and prizes.  When he was in the high school, he, with some of his friends started an organisation called “Youths Union”, which promoted not only sports and games among the youths, but also the spirit of helping the poor and needy in the community.  After graduation he worked in Bombay and in Madras for a few years.

In 1948 he came to NAGERCOIL and joined the “Indo-American Products Co.” run by his uncle Mr.J.David.  In 1949 he married Suseela the eldest daughter of Mr.J.David.  Robinson and Suseela are the great grand children of Rev.J.Joshua and it is a marriage of first cousins.  After marriage Robinson took charge of the business of his father-in-law.  By his untiring effort he expanded the business, to deal with various products like Cement, Manure, Cattle Feeds etc.  He owned a petrol station and ran it very successfully.  Now he has built his business establishment in Victoria Press Road, NAGERCOIL, and his son Rabindra Robinson is managing it.

In 1956 he revived the YMCA in NAGERCOIL and served as its President for eight years and rendered valuable service to the youth and to the community.  In 1962  few leading lawyers, doctors and eminent business people of the town started the Lions Club International in NAGERCOIL.  He is the Charter member of the club and still continues to be its member.  During this period he held many important posts and associated himself with various eminent people of the Lions movement through out the state.

In 1970 he was the elected member to various boards of the Kanyakumari Diocese and soon he proved himself as an important member of the Executive, Medical and College boards.  He was elected as the Treasurer of the Diocese and was responsible for the finance of the Churches, Colleges, Medical Mission, Schools and all other institutions of the Diocese.  He was Treasurer for six years continuously.  It was the only period in which the Diocesan budget and accounts ended in surplus.

Suseela is the eldest Daughter of Mrs.Anne David and Mr.J.David the grand son of Rev.J.Joshua.  She was born in 1931.  She had her education in Duthie English High School, NAGERCOIL.  As a clever student, she associated herself with various activities, took leaderships and was liked by all the teachers.  After marriage she involved herself in several social activities.  She was the board member of the womens voluntary service, and guild of service which had their head quarters in Madras.  She was in the legal advisory committee for a term of three years, and also in the committee of the Women’s Cooperative Society.  For a long time she was the Vice President of the old students Teachers Association of the Duthie School.  She was the Charter member of the Lioness Club of NAGERCOIL and served as President twice and in the board for many years.  She is interested in Church activities and served in the Boards of the “Youth of Christ Movement”, Bible Society of India and also one of the board members of the “Rev.J.Joshua Family Association”.  She is an active member of the Women’s Fellowship of the Home Church.

She is at present, President of the YWCA NAGERCOIL.  She was in its board for more than forty years, twice as Secretary and twice as Vice President.  During her period as Vice President the present “YWCA Hostel for Working Women” in Joshua Street was constructed.  In her period as President two rooms in the first floor were built.  She had played an important part in collecting money from the people of the town and from others in other parts of India.

They have four children.  Their first daughter Romola is a B.Sc. graduate and is married to Mr.R.A.K.V.Sampson.  He is the son of Mrs.Beulah Sampson and Mr.Sampson who worked as general Manager in A.V.Thomas Co;  Sampson is a post graduate with a M.A.Degree.  Now he is the Managing Director of ‘Monofil Private Ltd.’ and the owner of “Sam Nets”.  Rabindra Robinson their eldest son has completed B.Com., and B.L. and is in-charge of the business of his father Robinson.  He has married Sheela the daughter of Mrs.Suseela Money and Mr.P.Money who is a retired Excise Superintendent.  Their second daughter Ranjula is a M.Sc. graduate and is married to Dr.Sam Arthur the son of Mrs.Gnanabai Arthur and Mr.Samuel Arthur who worked as a manager in the “India Coffee House” in several parts of India.
