John  Sahaya Singh was the elder son of Mr.J.Joseph, retired Head master and Mrs. Sophia Joseph.  He inherited the quiet love, integrity and dependability of his father and the child like, spontaneous affection of his mother and was, therefore one of the most sought after and loved relative and friend.

He studied at the Scott Christian High School and College, NAGERCOIL where he was liked and respected by staff and fellow students for his diligence in class work and, on the playing fields, for his genius in Basket ball.  He was easily the best player in his age group and still ranks high among the “all time greats” of this area.  He was also good at Volley ball and Foot ball.  Besides all this he had a lively sense of humour and was a wonderful person to have around.

After completing his education he joined the Nanjinad Bank which was later merged with the Indian Overseas Bank.  He was a diligent and dependable worker in the bank till his retirement.

He married Vimala daughter of Dr.D.C.Berry Ph.D., an efficient organist and composer of music and Mrs. Salome Sugirthammal Berry grand daughter of Dr.A.Asirwatham from Kothicode ‘Konathu Kudumbam’, known for her kind heart and love towards the poor and needy.  It is a well known family from Neyyoor.  Singh was a devoted husband and father, and made life worth living for his dear ones.

After her education she worked as a Physical Education Teacher in LMS Higher Secondary School for Girls, Neyyoor  and retired in 1997.  Her father’s encouragement and her perseverance helped her to complete M.A., and M.Ed., while still in service.  During her time the school Hockey team secured the Central Government Award of Rs.10,000/-.  Many of her wards have become State and National level players.

Mrs.Vimala Singh is a very kind and religious lady.  Church activities and shepherding children through “Youth for Christ” made her life more wholesome and beneficial.  She possessed great talent in embroidery and crochet work which she inherited from her mother.  She was at the heart of building a home with love and joy and won her mother-in-law’s blessings.  She continues to be a joy to many around.

Christa their only daughter is married to Er.G.Vedanand of Puthalam.  They have a  son Joeshand  who is studying in the Pon Jesly Public Matriculation School in NAGERCOIL.

Mr.Singh passed away after a brief illness on 16th October, 1993 and was interred at the NAGERCOIL, Home Church Cemetery.  Mrs.Vimala Singh now lives in their family house in Munro Street with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson.
