Ranjan
Roy born on 11th August, 1923 is the son of Mr.M.A.Daniel and Mrs.Theresa
Chellammal Daniel. He had his
early education in the Mission Schools at NAGERCOIL and later at the
Loyala College, Madras, The Benares Hindu University and the Bristol
University, England. He
worked as a Physics Demonstrator at
Scott Christian College, NAGERCOIL during
1943-’44.
Later he joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in
Bombay as a Scientist and served there for fortyone years
till 1988. Thereafter he had
a stint as the Scientific Secretary of the International Committee on
Science and Technology in Developing Countries from 1988 to 1995.
He
married on 22nd December, 1948, Serena Padmini second daughter of Dr.G.M.Samuel
and Mrs.Annammal Samuel, the grand daughter of Rev.J.Joshua.
He
was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India in 1992. He is the recipient of a number of
National and International awards in Science. He is a Fellow of a number of Academies of Science. He and his wife are widely
travelled.
They have four children.
The eldest Teresa Lalitha is married to C.Rajakumar and have a son
Vinod and a daughter Anita.
They are living in the United States of
America for the past twenty five years. The second child is Samuel
Ravindran married to Alice Jasmin and they have two daughters - Archana
and Shobana. They live in
their farm about sixty kilometers from Sathyamangalam. Anna Amutha is married to Andrew
Thomas and they have a son Akhil and a daughter Athysha. They are settled in
Bangalore. The
youngest is Sheila married to Manuel Clement and they have two daughters
Divya and Nithya. They live
in Madras.
Prof. Ranjan Roy Daniel and Mrs.Padmini Daniel are now spending
their retired life at their house in the Water Tank
Road,
NAGERCOIL.
